26.2 Features & Improvements

Control Module UI in Window Pane Management

Window Pane Management

In PIXERA, you can edit the layout of the UI to suit your needs. Individual panes can be removed or further subdivided and filled with content from one of the application’s windows. Panes can be “detached,” which means they are hosted in their own top-level window, allowing them to be dragged to a different screen.
The tab orientation is maintained, with layout changes saved for each tab.


To access this functionality, you need to right-click between the existing panes (in the gutters) and then use the options offered in the menu. You will have to specify through the submenus on which side of the gutter the pane is that you want to separate (left, right, top, or bottom), and whether you want to split it horizontally or vertically.

Right-clicking on it, you can now choose to move or add certain panels to a new, empty pane.

There are some limitations on some of the panes and how many instances you may have of them: the Preview Workspace and the Timeline can only be shown once, and the Preview Workspace can not be detached into an independent window. The Resources, Screen Groups, Timelines, and Cue List panes can also only be shown once. There are also some context-related limitations on which content can be shown in which tabs.


Add Control Module UI to Panes

If you have any Control modules that have a UI (see Creating a User Interface In Control), you can add the UI to any empty pane anywhere, even outside the Control tab. This allows you to use the custom functionality you made for your workflow wherever you need it inside the application. To do so, add an empty section by right-clicking on the gutter where you want to add your module UI and choosing “Split”, then right-click on the empty pane and select “Add Control Module”. Finally, select your module from the dropdown.


Detaching Sections

You can undock certain sections, like the resources tab, to move them to a second monitor, for example. Navigate to the Detach property by right-clicking in the gutter and choosing which window to un-dock

Other sections, like the Timeline, can be detached by clicking on the “Change Layout” button and selecting “Detach”.

Re-Adding Detached Windows

Detached windows can be attached again by closing them:

 


Save and Recall Layouts

To save the edited layout to recall it on a later stage, right-click on the window divider and select “Layout - Save Current”.

 

Give it a name of your choice and hit "OK.
This Layout is then saved as a file on the system and can be found in the directory C:\ProgramData\AV Stumpfl\Pixera\layouts

In this directory, all the saved layouts can be found as files:
 

 

Once saved, it can also be recalled in PIXERA - right click again on the window divider and select the previously saved (or any other existing) layout:

 

NOTE

A layout can be saved individually for each Tab and therefore must be saved as individual layouts. There is currently no global layout option implemented

 

Reset Layout

To completely reset the layout of PIXERAs windows, right-click between the windows and select “Reset Layout”.

Known Issues and Current Limitations
 

  • Inspector window elements can not currently be detached.
     
  • If the timeline has been detached in saved layouts in Control or Compositing and these are loaded, it can happen that the detached timeline turns black.

    Scaling the empty Timeline window causes the Timeline visible in Compositing to go to full screen - changing the Tabs resets this.

    This has no effect on the playout and can be rectified by resetting the layout.

Audio Input

Audio Input


The following article refers to Audio for Live Inputs. For timecode-related audio input, please see this following articles:

 

Audio Input is available as part of PIXERA's Live Input Resources as of version 26.2. You can now select Audio Streams as part of the Live Input setup process and program these on the timeline in the same way you've already used live video inputs. A Live Input with audio captures input from an audio device and routes it to PIXERA's audio output in the same way audio files can be played back from a Layer on a Timeline. For more information on these concepts, please read the following articles:

Audio Stream Setup

Before using audio with the Live Input resource, you must first define the available audio streams. These can then be selected from, during the Live Input setup process.

Firstly, navigate to Settings, Audio, then unfurl the Audio Input section:

Clicking the Plus button will allow you to add your first Audio Input Stream. This will reveal all of the available setup options:

  1. Name for the Audio Input (will appear in the setup window for the Live Input resource).
  2. Active state - whether the audio is able to be used.
  3. Audio driver type
  4. Audio module/device (what's available here is determined by the Driver Type chosen).
  5. Sample Rate selection
  6. Set which channels of the input device are used
  7. Controls managing Audio Streams. From left to right: Add New, Remove, Move up in list, Move down in list.
  8. Channel name.
  9. Current volume setting (this is the readout for the volume fader, point 12)
  10. Mute channel
  11. Audio meter
  12. Channel Fader
  13. Pre/Post Fader - this sets how the audio is displayed on the meter (point 11). When this button says ‘Post Fader’, the meter displays the incoming level. When it says ‘Pre Fader’, the meter displays the input level after applying the adjustment from the fader (point 12).

When adding multiple input channels to an audio stream, they will be added sequentially to the Live Input resource. The channels and meters give an indicator of how they're organised. In this case, input channels 1 and 6, will become channels 1 and 2 of the Live Input Resource when added to the timeline.

You can create multiple Audio Streams with different configurations, which will be available as a new option available when setting up a live input resource.

Timeline Programming

Now your Audio Stream is set up, you are ready to use it in your project. Head to the Compositing Tab, Resources and add a Live Input. Click on the Live Input in the Resources Panel, in the Inspector select ‘Select Inputs’. Here you will now see any Audio Streams you've set up as well as your video input sources. You can even select a video source and an audio source for the same live input.

After closing this window, you can add your live input resource to your timelines. The layer the audio live input is on will define the output channels as with any other resource. For more information, please refer to Audio Playback.

Channel  Replication

The Audio Input feature also introduced Channel Replication into the options for resources with audio. Select a resource and you'll find it under Audio Settings in the Inspector

There is a checkbox for Channel Replication and a field called Target Channels. Above, you can see the default values. If, for example, you have a single channel (mono) Audio Stream set up, you can activate this checkbox and type in the channels you would like this audio to play out on. In the example above, a single channel Audio Stream will play out of output 1 of PIXERA's audio output device. Below, the settings will mean that audio is played out of outputs 1 and 2 (dual mono).

Resources Color

Resource Color

Resource Color Coding lets you assign colors to resources so they are easier to identify on the timeline. Colors are assigned in Resources and inherited by clips that use the resource.
Use a shared color to mark related media, show sections, or content that still needs to be reviewed.

UI Color is a visual aid within the user interface. It does not change the media content or the color of the output.


Assign a Color to a Resource

  1. Open the Compositing tab.
  2. Select the resource in Resources.
  3. In the Inspector, click the UI Color field in the general resource settings.
  4. Select a color from the palette. To define your own color, select Choose Custom Color.

A color marker appears on the resource in the library. On the timeline, the color appears as a strip along the right side of the corresponding clips.

The assignment applies to both existing and newly created clips that use the resource, provided they do not have their own UI color. Changing the resource color also updates the marking on these clips.

Mark Multiple Resources

Select multiple resources, then set UI Color in the Inspector. The chosen color is assigned to all selected resources.


Assign Colors Using Folders

Resource folders also have a UI Color setting. Select a folder in Resources and set its color in the Inspector.

Resources without an individual color assignment inherit the color of their immediate parent folder. This allows related media to share a common marking. An individually assigned resource color takes priority over the folder color.

Tip

Resources inherit the color of their immediate parent folder. Folder colors do not automatically propagate through additional levels of subfolders.

 


Timeline Display

The color strip helps you recognize marked resources wherever they are used on the timeline. The strip appears slightly darker on unselected clips than on selected clips.

An individual clip can also be assigned its own color using UI Color in the clip Inspector. The visible marking follows this order of priority:

Priority Color When It Is Used
1 Individual clip color Takes priority for this specific clip.
2 Individual resource color Used when the clip has no individual color.
3 Resource folder color Used when neither the clip nor the resource has an individual color.

For clips containing multiple resource events, the clip's main resource determines the inherited marking.

Example: Mark Media for Review

  1. In Resources, select the media that still needs to be reviewed.
  2. Assign a color such as orange using UI Color.
  3. Use the orange strips to locate the corresponding clips on the timeline.
  4. After reviewing the media, change the resource color to green, for example.

You decide what each color means. PIXERA does not automatically assign a workflow status to these colors.


Change or Reset a Color

To change a marking, open UI Color again and select another color.

Select No Fill to remove the individual color assignment from the selected resource, folder, or clip.

  • Resource: Resets to the color of its immediate parent folder, if the folder has a color assigned.
  • Clip: Resets to the resource color or the color inherited from the resource's folder.
  • Folder: Stops providing a color to resources without an individual color assignment.

Tip

 Selecting No Fill may reveal an inherited color. The color strip disappears only when no color is assigned at any of the applicable priority levels.

 

Why Does a Clip Not Use the Resource Color?

Check whether the clip has its own UI Color. Select No Fill in the clip Inspector to restore the inherited resource color. For clips containing multiple resource events, also check that you changed the color of the main resource.
