In PIXERA, Hot Regions are defined time windows on a timeline that specifically respond to timecode. Instead of locking the entire timeline to the Timecode continuously, the external signal only takes control of playback inside these specified zones - outside of them, the timeline continues to run manually or independently.

Where to Find Hot Regions in PIXERA

To create a new Hot Region, first select the timeline on which you want to place it.
In the Inspector, scroll down to the SMPTE section and click the + button to create a new Hot Region.
When adding a Hot Region you can set some Settings.

In addition to Mute and Name, you can set three core parameters for a Hot Region:
- Time: Specifies where the Hot Region starts on the timeline (e.g., Song 1 starts at 0 seconds, Song 2 at 10 minutes, Song 3 at 20 minutes).
- Duration: Sets how long the Hot Region lasts (in this example, each song is 5 minutes long).
- TC Time: Defines which incoming timecode triggers the Hot Region.(For Song 5, the Hot Region is triggered when the incoming timecode reaches 50 minutes. However, because the Hot Region itself is positioned at 40 minutes on the timeline, the Nowpointer jumps directly to 40 minutes even though the incoming timecode reads 50 minutes.)
- Fade Settings: Choose between using timeline SMPTE settings or individual settings.
- Fade at TC Start: Triggers an initial fade upon receiving incoming timecode using the configured fade duration.
- TC Jump Fade Offset: Determines the minimum timecode shift required to trigger a jump transition instead of smoothing it via Drift Correction.
- TC Jump Fade Duration: Sets the duration of the jump transition, during which the Nowpointer lights up green.
- TC Jump Preload Delay: Buffers the visual output update after a jump to allow media preloading while the Nowpointer jumps instantly.
Use Case
A great way to use this in practice is for live shows where timing between songs is unpredictable.
By creating timelines for each song with fixed Hot Regions, the system automatically drops the timecode signal as soon as a song ends. This hands full control back to you to run manual lights or video clips during breaks, until the next song's timecode kicks in again.
