This article is about MIDI Timecode input, output and how to set up those in PIXERA
Warning
Currently, only MIDI Timecode input is supported. MIDI Timecode output is not available.
MIDI Timecode in PIXERA
MIDI Timecode (MTC) is an industry-standard protocol that embeds standard SMPTE timing data into short, frame-based MIDI messages. It enables lighting consoles, media servers, digital audio workstations (DAWs), and show controllers to synchronize complex cues down to the exact frame over standard MIDI hardware interfaces or virtual MIDI networks.
Since PIXERA version 26.3 Inter 46, it is no longer necessary to receive MIDI Timecode via external Control Module scripts. MIDI Timecode has been implemented natively within the SMPTE Timecode Settings.

Device Type [1]
In PIXERA, the Device Type setting defines the physical interface or network protocol - such as MIDI, Art-Net, Audio, or USB- used to receive incoming timecode.
Status [2]
Shows the incoming Timecode Signal.
Device [3]
The Device setting specifies the exact hardware or software source for the incoming timecode.
Timecode Format [4]
The Timecode Format setting determines the frame rate of the incoming signal, which defaults to From Packet to automatically detect the frame rate directly from the MTC stream. It can also be set manually to lock the timeline to a specific frame rate if required.
Timeout (Frames) [5]
The Timeout (Frames) setting defines how many missing frames PIXERA will automatically regenerate before pausing or stopping playback.
Midi Module
MIDI Timecode is handled via Control in PIXERA.

Follow these steps for set up:
- Navigate to Settings → SMPTE Timecode → Device Type and select “API”

- Import a new "Midi" Module from the Control Library Modules

- Set up your new Module in the Properties Window and activate it with the “init” action.

- Connect the “CurrentTime” of your sending Timeline in the Pixera Module to the “currentTimeFromTimeline” action in your module.

- Continue with assigning Timecode to the Timeline → Timecode PIXERA
